We invite you to join all coming activities. There will be lectures on Monday through to Thursday. On Monday and Tuesday night films will be screened accompanied by lectures and discussion. On Wednesday we will open the Stylos exposition and launch the digital pantheon// archive at 17:00.

A workshop lasting 23 hours takes place on Thursday and Friday, followed by the Stylosophy Gala in Rotterdam on Friday night. Tickets for this gala are still available at Stylos.

Carel Weeber – hoogleraar, architect, en publicist – is al decennia lang een spraakmakend architect met vernieuwende en vaak rebelse ideeën over architectuur, bouwen, wonen en volkshuisvesting. In deze documentaire blikt hij kritisch, maar ook met humor, terug op zijn professionele nalatenschap. Samen met filmmaker Remy Vlek zoekt de film een antwoord op de vraag hoeveel risico een mens loopt die steeds van stijl en standpunt verandert.

The work of young artist Daan Roosegaarde views the anniversary theme from a different point of view. In search of people's reaction to their environment, he let's his art installations react to its visitors. This form of interactive art comes from his interest in the dynamics of people. In architecture, he was always a bit disappointed with the static result. His view on dynamic art resulted in 'Studio Roosegaarde' which makes interactive projects and exhibits them all over the world, in galleries such as the V2_, Netherlands Media Art Institute Montevideo, Tate Modern London, Reina Sofia Madrid, 'Microwave' Hong Kong, YCAM Japan and National Art Center Tokyo.

Roosegaarde's work explores the dynamic relation between architecture, people and e-culture. In this interaction his sculptures create a situation of 'tactile high-tec' where visitor and (public) space become one.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts AKI in Enschede and received a Master degree at the Berlage Institute, a Postgraduate Laboratory of Architecture in Rotterdam.

Currently Daan is the creative director of Studio Roosegaarde, an independent artistic laboratory in which interactive artworks are created.

The story is about Howard Roark an idealistic young architect who chooses to struggle in obscurity rather than compromise his artistic and personal vision. It’s not pure fiction, as Frank Lloyd Wright is said to be the illustrated architect.

Harm Knoop will be the moderator for the evening. He will not only give his view of the film, but he will also discuss the authenticity of architecture.

Robert Winkel is one of the founders of Mei Architecten, a fast growing architectural firm. He is also a founder of Archined. In his lecture Robert Winkel will focus on ‘the sublime’ in architecture. The ultimate perception of space is of course the perception of ‘the sublime’. The sublime, explained by Edmund Burke as a mix of pleasure and fear is a very complex concept. Robert Winkel will show how the sublime influenced his work.

To celebrate another five years of Stylos, an exposition will take place during the 23rd lustrum week in February. In staircase west at the Julianalaan, large verticle banners will feature articles from pantheon// magazine, covering activities organised during these five years.

On top of that, we will introduce the pantheon// online archive. A digital archive containing all editions of pantheon// magazine ever made; available online for everyone to view, download and print.

"Composed City", a collaboration between Lola Landscape Architects and Staalplaat Soundsystem, experiments with the sound of public spaces, finding and playing the sounds that identifies that space. More information can be found at http://www.composedcity.org/topic.html

As director of The Wall House #2 Foundation (entrusted with maintaining The Wall House #2), former advisor af art to the previous two chief government architects Jo Coenen and Mels Crouwel and former visual artist, Kie Ellens knows a thing or two about perceiving architecture and space, and what it takes to alter it. He will talk about how the perception of (public) space can be altered by art.

Several DJ's, including the ever favorite DJ Menno de Meester, and a live performance of the young and bouncing band The Tunes will be entertaining you throughout the night.

De lustrumexcursie vertrok op vrijdagavond naar Duitsland. Op zaterdag kwamen we aan in het ijskoude en besneeuwde München. Hier hebben we genoten van de oude stad en het opera gebouw. ’s Avonds gingen we naar de oudste brouwerij van München om daar te genieten van een echte Beierse maaltijd met een goede pull bier. Hierna ging de groep de stad in om het nachtleven te proeven.
Op zondag waren we al weer vroeg in de Pinakothek der Moderne. Een museum van moderne kunst, vormgeving en architectuur. Hierna gingen we twee kleinere projecten bekijken, de Herz Jesu Kirche en het Haus der architectur. Het hoogtepunt van de dag was wel het Olympische park. Hier werden we ontvangen door een enthousiaste studente die ons het gehele park liet zien. Na het Olympisch park was er tijd om BMW welt te bezoeken. Hier kregen we de indruk dat BMW nog niet echt last heeft van de recessie. Het gebouw was enorm overweldigend in zijn vorm.
Op maandag moest er vroeg opgestaan worden. De Allianz arena stond namelijk op het programma. Hier kregen we eerst een inleiding over de architectuur en daarna kregen we het gehele stadion te zien. Van de kleedkamers tot de persruimtes. ’s Middags had iedereen eigen tijd om te doen waar hij of zij zin in had. Sommigen van ons gingen naar het indrukwekkende kamp Dachau, anderen kozen voor het wat luchtigere shoppen.
Kortom blijkt München een zeer aan te raden stad om te bezoeken en hij staat zeker nog een keer op de agenda voor deze zomer.

Desperate times call for decadent festivities. Just like the economic downturn of the beginning of the 1930s didn't hold back the crème de la crème of Beaux-Arts architects in New York to carouse in Hotel Astor during the Beaux-Arts Ball of January 1931, Stylos invites you to our own Fête Moderne.

Have you ever wondered what architecture really does to people? The Stylos 115th anniversary workshop, in collaboration with Robert Winkel of Mei Architects and the Netherlands Architecture Institute, is your chance to test how people feel after visiting your own piece of architecture.

There is a lot of 'conventional wisdom' about the effects of architecture on people and their state of mind. We want to see what's true and what's false.

During a 23-hour workshop you will formulate a hypothesis that doubles as a concept and design a space within two by two meters. During these 23 hours you will receive lectures, see films and get the help of visiting critics from different fields.

After the 23-hour workshop the entries will be judged by a professional jury. The group that has made the winning design will be able to build their object in a public building. The public will be able to visit this installation and express their feelings, sensations and emotional responses there by filling out a short questionnaire.

Participation costs €5,00 (€10,00 if you're not a member of Stylos). You will be provided with dinner, breakfast, drinks throughout the day (and night) and building materials for your scale model.
