“Aerospace Engineering has a wind tunnel, Electrical Engineerging, Math, Physics & Computer Science have their laboratories but Architecture has a planet full of buildings.” professor, engineer Hein de Haan once said. More than 50 years ago the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment decided to call for a committee to formulate criteria to examine the aim of trips organized by students. Each student is once along his or her study eligible to apply for the so called Stylos Grant to join an excursion. The amount of money on the budget is divided in two and spread over the two semesters. Currently this is €100,- per person.

Main Purpose

The main purpose of the Stylos Grant is to fund all kinds of extra-curricular field trips that contribute to the academic careers of students.

Implies

A. Trips should be organized by faculty lectors, professors, students or student organizations. The responsibility is clearly in the hands of the students.
B. The list of participants is open for subscription for all members of the faculty community. Therefore an announcement has to be made, for example in B-Nieuws, on the website of the faculty or on the Facebook page from the faculty.
C. Trips that are part of the fixed academic curriculum, and subsequently, linked to credits are not eligible for the Stylos Grant.
D. Trips that are part of those courses outside the fixed academic program, the so called Free Choice Program, are eligible for the Grant even though students will earn credits.
E. Exchange students are excluded from the Stylos Grant.
F. A report of the trip should be published either in a booklet, a periodical or showed in an (digital) exhibition in order to share the obtained knowledge to the faculty community and others.
G. Participants have to be in the possession of 70 ECTS points, the propedeuse- or HBO-diploma or be registered at the TU Delft as an MSc-student.

Rules

A. The group should consist of a minimum of 8 applicants and a maximum of 25 applicants.
B. The excursion has to endure at least 4 days.
C. The making of an excursion guide and publication from the trip is obligated.
D. The excursion has to be supervised by a professor.
E. The participant has to be in the possession of a travel insurance.
F. The making of a digital version of the publication and travel guide is mandatory.
G. The student who is in charge of the trip receives an extra grant of €50,-. The maximum of organizing students is 2 students per trip.
H. Only once along their study students are eligible to apply for the Stylos Grant to join an excursion.
I. Accompanying teachers can also receive €100,- from the Stylos Grant.
J. The application should be turned in 6 weeks before the excursion at the latest.
K. The Grant will be paid to the participants individually.
L. The academic year will be split in two parts. From the 1st of September until the 29th of February and the 1st of March until the 31st of August. If the fund is empty, it is not longer possible to get the Grant in that part of the year. If there is money left from a part of the year, it will be used in the next part of the year.
M. Trips included in a free-elective master are excluded from the Stylos Grant.
