SDG's and Architecture

We are facing an undeniable global energy and climate crisis, for which the construction industry can be held accountable. In order to save our own generation and the generations that follow, the United Nations has formulated Sustainable Development Goals to counter the negative climate changing effects and to stimulate worldwide implementation of this 2030 agenda.

Within the prospect of reaching these goals, the Architecture and Construction sector demands change. In current education and practice, the main focus lies only in a few of these goals (such as Good Health and Well-being, Affordable and Clean Energy & Sustainable Cities and Communities), leaving other valuable goals underexposed. Within SDGs which are at first glance not immediately related to architecture, lies a substantial amount of undiscovered potential.

In this workshop, the aim is to rethink the design for “De Gele Scheikunde”, while analyzing and designing in a perspective where these carefully selected underexposed SDGs merge.

Students will be stimulated to examine potential (unexpected) possibilities of architecture in contexts that are yet to be discovered.

The workshop will be hosted by RoosRos, a full-service architectural firm with over 60 employees, working on a national scale. Their expertise covers a wide range of projects, from architecture and landscape to building technology and urbanism. For more information about the firm and their projects, visit roosros.nl.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, from 14:00 to 17:00 in the Berlage Room. All necessary drawing materials, as well as drinks and snacks, will be provided.

There is a maximum of 20 participants. As spaces are limited, we kindly ask you to inform us in advance if you’re no longer able to attend. This allows us to ensure that every spot is filled. Please cancel by emailing us at externalaffairs@stylos.nl.

We’re excited for the event and hope to see you there!
