My tripguide to Firenze
This article will highlight some of the best moments from my amazing trip to Firenze, including a few art tips and some funny stories from my experiences in this beautiful city.
This summer my friend and I departed from Rome to Firenze by train, having a scenic route along the way. We saw a lot of mountains, lakes, animals and of course, lots of sunshine. Due to the sleepless nights in our unconditioned Airbnb because of the heat, we were exhausted. After checking in in our hostel, the exhaustion kicked in and we didn’t have a lot of energy to explore the city. So as any 20-year-old we decided to check tiktok for inspiration for activities. A few scrolls later, we decided to get some bread, dips and fresh fruits and went to the rose gardens. It was incredible, I would really recommend it. The view and the sunset were stunning that evening. Afterwards, we went to Piazzale Michelangelo. It’s THE hotspot for sunset watching for tourists (which was overrated in my opinion). It was very typical for the city: a lot of tourists dancing to Italian music, souvenirs on the streets and the vibes were very interesting.
In the evening, people, even locals, were very nice and welcoming. We spoke a lot to strangers about the culture in Firenze and they told us people were very open to tourists. However not everyone was happy about the tourists as some walls got ‘fuck off tourists’ graffitied on the wall. The contrast between the people who were open to tourists and the people who were hating tourists was gigantic. Piazzo Santo Spirito was a square where people were very open to socializing with others. On this square there was a cool vintage market too, I would really recommend it!
A basic recommendation is Brunelleschi’s dome. It may be basic, but it is definitely worth it. The dome was built between 1420 and 1436. It has a big cupola of wood, which was new in this period of time. It’s an absolute must-see in Firenze. When you walk in the streets of Firenze, you see street art in every street. There is this one woman who is painted all over the city. A woman in a shop full of art told us that the artist combined three women who he admired in his life. He combined numerous features of their faces to create an imaginary woman with three beautiful people. We recognized the print all over the city, and the story made it more interesting.
The city is full of surprises. The last story I will tell is about one of these surprises. When we were walking through a beautiful park, a wonderful building was revealed. There was this beautiful building that was an education building. When you are visiting Firenze, definitely go in to the Licea Artistico Statale Porta Romana in Ex Scuderie Reali and enjoy! ;)
